About Christian Muda and Matochresebloggen.se

Matochresebloggen.se is one of Sweden’s most read travel blogs and in 2019 had over 375,000 unique visitors. The blog has been run by me – Christian Muda in my spare time. I love food, drink and travel so this is the perfect way for me to be able to tell others about what I like most!

I was participant in the Press tour to Bulgaria in July  2021, organized by the Ministry of Tourism.

Sunny Beach

Sunny Beach 2021 – with beach clubs like this and a fantastic sandy beach. So much more glorious than its reputation! Here – at Bedroombeach we made a stop a couple of hours on the way home from the small cozy Unesco town of Nesebar. A great start to this Bulgaria stay!

Wine Club and good wineries

What a dinner! In a beautiful farm a bit outside Varna, Mr Dimo runs “Wine Club Varna”. Well-cooked traditional Bulgarian home cooking is served here, as well as a large selection of Bulgarian wines, which of course were really good. So good, interesting and nice – realize that there are lots of wineries here in Bulgaria, we hope we can push a visit on someone in our fairly packed schedule! 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷.

There are 282 wineries in Bulgaria – so it was not far from Varna to the nearest – Varna Winery just outside the city. So fun to check out the production and taste some of the different wines you make here. Of course, the wine tastes best ice cold in the sun up among the vines! 🥂.

Varna

The sunny coast of Bulgaria not only has all-inclusive hotels by the sea but also cool boutique hotels like the one we stayed at in Varna. Graffitihotel is an award-winning 5-star boutique hotel just a ten-minute walk from the sea. Here, different designers have designed one floor each. At the top gym and relax with rooftop pool and sauna, where I started every morning, before I hit the big breakfast buffet. A fantastic hotel that I can really recommend if you come to Varna!

Balchik

Balchik – an incredibly beautiful garden on the coast, which belongs to an old palace – which you can also visit. In one of the smaller houses you can try local wine and below the garden down by the sea there are several cozy restaurants. Do not miss if you go to the coast of Bulgaria!

Paradise beaches

A real paradise beach by the Black Sea, which belongs to the golf hotel located just above. There you will find the golf course that will be Europe’s equivalent to Pebble Beach thanks to the dramatic views. 🏝

Cape Kaliakra

Cape Kaliakra, a nature reserve with magnificent sunset views of the Black Sea and the ruins of an ancient castle. Such a dramatic and beautiful place!

Lighthouse Golf and SPA

One of four suites at the Lighthouse Hotel – one of the hotels on the Bulgarian coast we stayed at last week. It can accommodate up to 8 people, with 2 bedrooms, a private roof terrace with pool and a huge living room. At the same price as a double room for two people at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm!  🥂☀️🌴

Sofia

After six days on the Black Sea coast, we ended the week in Bulgaria with 24 hours in Sofia – the Bulgarian capital. Among other things, I managed to stay at the city’s newest hotel, which also has Sofia’s most popular rooftop bar, have dinner at possibly one of Sofia’s most hyped restaurants and do both my own sightseeing tour on my own and a tour with a knowledgeable guide. Definitely a city I can recommend for an autumn weekend!
