Poster against gold mining near Krumovgrad. The citizens of the town strongly opposed the intention of an international mining company to mine and purify gold in the surroundings of the town, using cyanide technology. After a serious battle they succeeded to convince the state authorities to stop the project, threatening the entire future existence of the area, as nobody will buy any product from an area, where cyanides have been used. The Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds/BirdLife Bulgaria strongly supported the local citizen group, providing it with information and scientific arguments and making strong statements to the state authorities against the mining project.
