Batak Dam

Photos around the artificial lake of Batak in the Rhodopi mountains.
The Batak Dam (Bulgarian: язовир Батак) is located in the Rhodope Mountains and is the third biggest in Bulgaria. It attracts many tourists and fishermen, and a whole resort was bulit on its shore — Tsigov Chark (Цигов чарк).
There is a water power plant on the lake, and it is close to Pazardzhik and Plovdiv. The area is a good birdwatching site in summer time. Due to the very high conservation vallue of the ecosystems, it is identified as an Important Bird Area and a site of the European Ecological Network NATURA2000 within the Western Rhodopi Site.
