Poda Reserve

Poda Reserve is situated by the town of Burgas on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast and it is a wetland of international importance. It is recognised as an Important Bird Area and a Ramsar site. The wetland has very rich biodiversity. On just 100 ha area over 260 species of birds have ben recorded. Otter and other rare mammals occur there. Poda was proposed by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) for legal protection and the government officially authorised BSPB with its management. In order to ensure the long-term preservation of the reserve and the sustainable conservation of the Burgas Wetlands Complex,BSPB established there the first in Bulgaria Nature Conservation and Information Centre 'Poda' (funded by the Swiss Government). Now Poda is a very attractive tourist destination for birdwatching.
