Studen Kladenets Reservoir

Studen Kladenets (Студен кладенец) is a dam on the located east-southeast of the town of Kardzhali in southern Bulgaria.
Studen Kladenets is one of the biggest dams in Bulgaria and also includes an artificial lake. It is located to the east of the town, and west of Studen Kladenets there is another large dam — Kardzhali Dam.
Studen Kladenets dam is an attractive place for fishermen, where rudd is caught in great numbers. Studen Kladenets is Bulgarian for "a cold well". But it is a real paradise for birdwatching, as more than 180 bird species can be seen there. It is an Important Bird Area of European Importance. This is one of the main areas of intensive conservation action of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB).
